Position description

The Department of Asian American Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), invites applications for part-time Lecturer positions (non-Senate) with primary responsibility in teaching interdisciplinary courses in Asian American Studies for the 2026-2027 academic year. Appointments are usually per course, on a quarter-by-quarter basis. The UCLA Department of Asian American Studies offers a major, minor, a Pilipino Studies minor, a graduate concentration, and a Master of Arts.

Salary commensurate with applicant qualifications and experience; percentage of appointment commensurate with teaching load. See Table 15 Unit 18 Faculty Pre-Six – AY for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position $70,977 – $87,294.

We are especially interested and looking for applicants who can teach courses that satisfy our major/minor requirements of Comparative and Intersectional Ethnic Studies or Asian American and Pacific Islander Communities and Social Movements.

Requirements: Applicants with a Ph.D. are preferred. Applicants who are advanced to Ph.D. candidacy or who have a M.A., M.F.A., or equivalent may be considered (currently enrolled UC students are not considered).

Part-time Lecturer (Non-Senate) for AAS40: Asian American Movement in Winter Quarter 2020

The Department of Asian American Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), invites applications for a part-time Lecturer position (Non-Senate) to teach Asian American Movement (AAS 40) during the Winter Quarter 2020.  Academic appointment dates for the Winter Quarter are January 1-March 31, 2020.  The UCLA Department of Asian American Studies offers a major, minor, a graduate concentration, and Master of Arts.

 

 

Requirements: Applicants with a Ph.D. are preferred. Applicants who are advanced to Ph.D. candidacy or who have a M.A., M.F.A., or equivalent may be considered (currently enrolled UC students are not eligible).  Expertise with the following would be welcome for this introductory course: Asian American movement of late 1960s and 1970s; social history methods, including role of oral history, documentary films, and archival history, and analysis of primary and secondary sources; Asian American movement situated within larger frame of social change of era and interpretation of nation and society; exploration of campus- and community-based activism, service learning, and civic engagement.
