Hidden Identities, Hidden Lives: When Data Obscures Health Disparities

In this talk, Ponce will focus on health survey data in California and in national surveys for American Indian Alaska Native and Asian subgroup information. A health economist, Ponce’s research contributes to the elimination of racial/ethnic and social disparities in health and health care in three areas: multicultural survey research, social penalties in health access, and global and immigrant health.

Ponce is a professor in the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health’s Department of Health, and Director of the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research. She is the Principal Investigator for the California Health Interview Survey, the largest health survey in the nation. Ponce received a BA in science from UC Berkeley, an MA in public policy from Harvard University, and a PhD in health services at UCLA.
