Ananya Roy, M.C.P., Ph.D., is professor of urban planning, social welfare and geography and director of the Institute of Inequality and Democracy at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs. Dr. Roy participates in the broad-based endeavor to remake the canon of urban studies and planning. Her interventions in critical urban theory foreground urbanisms of the global South and draw on the legacies of postcolonial, feminist and critical race theory. In addition, Dr. Roy is one of several scholars seeking to build what can be called critical poverty studies.
