DESCRIPTION:Dear Friends of the Asian American Studies Center: \nWith a shared commitment to advance democracy through research and alliances with social movements and racial justice activism\, the UCLA Asian American Studies Center and the Institute on Inequality and Democracy at UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs\, in the third year of the UCLA Activist-in-Residence Program\, are excited to welcome Tanzila “Taz” Ahmed\, Micah White\, and Yusef Omowale as the 2019 UCLA Activists-in-Residence. The UCLA activists will be in residence during the Winter Quarter 2019 at the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs. \nUCLA Asian American Studies Center Activist:\nTanzila “Taz” Ahmed\, Campaign Strategist at 18MillionRising\, will work on an Asian American history and advocacy podcast called\, “The Subaltern Speaks” which will have a tight focus on the issues\, stories\, and movement moments that affect Asian Americans. \nInstitute on Inequality and Democracy at UCLA Luskin Activists:\nMicah White\, author\, public speaker and lifelong activist who co-created Occupy Wall Street; Micah is co-teaching “Housing Justice Activism & Protest: Past\, Present\, Future\,” a core course for Activist Graduate School\, at the Luskin School of Public Affairs in Winter 2019. \nYusef Omowale\, Executive Director at the Southern California Library\, will work to articulate a critical archival practice that calls for inclusion and diversity and will document the everyday lived realities of our communities\, specifically those suffering policing and gentrification. \n  \n  \nPlease join us in warmly welcoming our activists to the UCLA community! \nWelcome Reception for 2019 UCLA Activists-in-Residence \nWednesday\, January 16\, 2019\n4:00 PM – 6:00 PM\nUCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs\n3rd Floor Commons

SUMMARY:Join us as we celebrate and pay tribute to the life of Dr. Dawn Bohulano Mabalon
DESCRIPTION:The UCLA community invites you to celebrate the life of Dr. Dawn Mabalon\, a UCLA alumni who passed away on August 10\, 2018. Dawn was a UCLA Asian American Studies MA 1997 and History BA 1994 alumna. She was a Professor at San Francisco State University in the History Department. All graduate and undergraduate students and organizations\, alumni\, faculty and staff impacted by Dawn are invited to join. We also invite the public at large\, especially family\, friends\, and colleagues who would like to pay their respects to her life and work.\nA tribute will take place on January 26 in Ackerman Ballroom where food and drinks will be served.
