Asian Pacific Young Leaders Summer 2019 Internship

 

The Asian Pacific Young Leaders (APYL) internship is designed to provide college students with the tools they need to become successful in Bay Area government and politics. The program gives students the opportunity to develop their leadership skills, build their professional network, and gain political experience.

 

Students will be placed with San Francisco elected officials and non-profit organizations during the length of their internship, and will attend weekly professional development seminars. They will also be given the opportunity to volunteer at community events and attend major political functions.

Prior interns have been placed with the offices of Mayor Ed Lee, Assemblymember Phil Ting, Supervisor Katy Tang, and the Community Alliance of Jobs and Housing. APYL graduates have gone on to work for elected officials like Congresswoman Barbara Lee or serve as government affairs representatives to companies like Airbnb.

 

All interns will receive a paid stipend during the internship program.

 

Requirements

  • Undergraduate student (or recent college graduate) residing in the Bay Area during the summ
  • Deep interest and engagement with the Asian Pacific Islander commun
  • Available to work minimum of 20 hours a week in your assigned placemen
  • Available to attend mandatory professional development seminars every Wednesday, 5:30PM

– 7:30PM in San Francisco and Internship Orientation Day on June 22nd, 2019.

 

Program Schedule

Application Deadline: April 26th, 2019

Notice of Acceptance: May 3rd, 2019 Internship Orientation Day: June 22nd, 2019

Internship End Date: August 16th, 2019

(Internship end date negotiable)

Personal statements should be 300-500 words, and answer the following prompt: How have you engaged or taken leadership in your community and how do you plan to use that experience in your future academic and career goals? Please feel free to describe any community service, political work, or issue advocacy in your response.
